About our community, Fairfield, Iowa

Fairfield, Iowa, population 10,000, is an exciting and diverse community offering a unique blend of modern-day innovation and traditional hometown values.  With its low crime rate, abundance of indoor and outdoor recreational opportunities, and nationally recognized public and private schools, Fairfield is a great place to raise a family.   Fairfield's picturesque town square is filled eclectic gift shops, cozy coffeehouses, and fabulous restaurants ranging from down-home cooking to international cuisine.  The Maharishi University of Management, established in 1973, provides the community with a variety of educational and cultural opportunities, and the local community sponsors a fabulous concert series and community theater.  In addition, Fairfield is proud of its industry, as it is home to many family-owned companies providing it with a deep-rooted presence and a stable employment base.  The Des Moines Register recently recognized Fairfield the "Entrepreneurial Capital of Iowa"- a name that effectively reflects the town's wealth of cutting-edge technological enterprises, including nationally and internationally-known telecommunications and software companies.  Of course, no one can forget Fairfield's "roots"- that is, its long tradition of agriculture.   Fairfield and the rest of Jefferson county provide more than 255,000 acres of quality, affordable farmland, and local farmers take advantage of the perennially fertile soil to provide some of the country's best corn and soybeans as well as beef and pork.   As with all progressive cities, plans are continually being made to improve the quality of life in Fairfield.  A civic center is currently being planned for structure in downtown Fairfield, and a new water reservoir is in development as well.  A beautification committee has also recently been formed with the objective of renovating the downtown area.  Headed through the efforts of the Fairfield Economic Development Association, two housing subdivisions have provided 75 new lots that have been, and continue to be, purchased and developed by individual families.  As it has in the past, the Fairfield community continues to grow due to the dedication of its people.
